In Focus - Chirag Nainani - Founder, Chirag Nainani Label

1. Let’s meet Chirag Nainani

I was born & brought up in Jaipur, so am very much dedicated to my city and that's what is majorly reflected in my work & that’s how I like my art to be known. My love for colors and dyeing is always visible in my work. I graduated from Pearl academy of fashion , Jaipur. I don't really have any background in fashion, so I am the first one to be venturing in this field from my family.

2. Do you remember the first time you got inspired about your current field of work & how did you follow your current path of setting up your own label?

Back when I was a teenager, I worked an event that introduced me to fashion week for the first time. This led me to finding my source of inspirations and my interests, and I decided to follow this path for my career.

3. What keeps you motivated & what is the best piece of advice you’d give to someone starting their own brand/label?

An advice I’ll share, is first of all understand the market you are aiming to work for. The clarity of your client has to be there. Within the start up year of your brand, you should be able to identify & understand who is your target and who is your brand going to cater to. You cannot target everyone, you need to specify and define the age group you are targeting. I find my motivation in the idea of exploring & developing something new out of my resources.

4. Which was the most challenging part of your journey?

The most challenging part of my journey was identifying my clients & getting a clarity of where am I heading with my brand. I started working online and in a month's time I got orders for more than a lakh rupees, which is in-fact a big deal for a client. But it wasn't just a bed of roese, when I started developing the pieces, I faced innumerable issues that led me to believe I was heading for a disaster. At that point, I realized how difficult it is to create a brand & to have a successful brand, you need to define your focus and align your goals accordingly.

5. Who do you design/create your clothes for?

I design & create clothes for every woman who likes to dress herself as easy-chic and has an eye for printed & textured clothing. A woman who's looking for an authentic & unique factor in her clothes.

6. Can you walk us through the biggest lesson you’ve learnt in running a business.

Ummm, I’d say that running a business is not a solo job. It's the teamwork that counts, it's the entire team that makes it all happen. For me, that one thing that made it all possible is my family's support.

7. Please tell us your life motto:

My life motto is to get a good night's sleep when I go home after a busy day. (laughs)

8. Which is the one Social Media platform you love the most & why?

I am not a very big social media fan, still learning about all these new tools.
