THE MAKING OF A PERFECT SUMMER DRESS
What are the things that come to your mind when you picture the perfect summer? A yellow dress, pineapples, beach and sun right? That is exactly the kind of picture that came to my mind when I saw this easy-breezy dress at Ann Taylor and I was like 'This is the perfect summer dress'. It's got everything going, the cheery yellow color that makes you think you're the sun, the tropical fruit print because you know pineapples and summer are basically the same thing, the cotton fabric that'll let all your parts breathe - yes all of them, no sleeves so you can sweat shamelessly and a sash around the waist because you need to keep that belly tight! There was no chance I was going to let this dress go except one thing and that was a comment I read on the website. Someone had very cleverly and sarcastically pointed out that no grown up women would like to wear a dress that's covered in pineapples. That one comment right there raised a few doubts in my mind and just like that shattered my perfect summer dress dreams.
I asked myself, would I want to wear a dress that may have been just borrowed from a 6 year old's closet? Imagine if a 6 year old girlie wore this, she'd totally slay the OOTD contest, right? At least the 6 year old in me wanted to give this dress a try, not just because it was so cute and perfect for summer but because it took me back to my childhood days. There, I found my own answer and I said to myself 'Hell yeah, you gotta keep that dress'. We are always told to keep that child inside alive but when it comes to practice, we often refrain from doing so and that's reflected in our lifestyles like our sartorial choices, our habits, our definition of fun and more.
Lesson learnt! No more over thinking about things that you like and sometimes it's okay to act like a child. Surprisingly, I was actually quite pleased with the way this dress turned out, and yeah it really is the perfect summer dress. And know that you know what makes the perfect summer dress, why don't you go ahead and give it a try?
